Strengthen your memory with this technique

Our name is the word we have heard the most in our lives and it has great power. It is one more part of you, just like your body or your personality. We are programmed from an early age to pay attention when we hear our name.

It turns out that both in our personal and professional lives, we are constantly exposed to meeting lots of new people. Saying the other person's name is recognizing their identity and I believe that active listening and knowing our colleagues is essential as leaders.

For some time I had difficulty remembering the names of the many people one meets every day in active professional and personal life. It was really a challenge during the pandemic when you met people virtually or physically but with a mask that covered all their features and this technique that I will talk about next has really been very useful for me in remembering names.

The technique consists of four well-defined steps:

- When I first meet a person, I look at them deeply and consciously.

- Then I try to identify a particular faction. Maybe the color of her eyes, the color of her hair, etc.

- By telling me his/her name, I repeat it once out loud and twice more to myself.

- Lastly, I try to associate him with someone I already know with the same name. It can be someone close to me or who has passed through my life, a famous artist, a historical figure, etc. You can also ask the origin or meaning of that name to have more information to remember and a nice chat to start.

For example Anna, you immediately repeat her name out loud once and then twice more inside yourself. Finally you relate it to a person you already know. Maybe Anna was a classmate from school or in my case she was an annoying receptionist in a building where I lived in Milan

I hope you have found it useful if you feel identified with the difficulty of memorizing names. You can leave me in the comments if you have any technique to remember names or other things.
