Driver of the uncertain

Companies share their values, vision and goals with their members through formal internal communication management. Every day we communicate for different purposes such as carrying out and working as a team on a project.

Communicating means sharing, sharing ideas, sensations, opinions and thoughts and this should not be exempt from a process of change. Let's remember that as I said in previous posts, that organizations are made up of people, each one with a different perception and personality, and the communication of a process of change, in addition to existing and disseminating it, must also be adapted to each one.

Change processes generate uncertainty at all levels in the people who are part of a project. Change affects people, but also processes, and the company's own organizational culture.

What problems appear as a consequence of a bad or non-existent communication before the change?

  • Disorientation and difficulties of alignment with the change.

  • Lack of collaboration and commitment

  • Profusion of rumors and a culture based on "confidentiality" and mistrust.

  • Deterioration of the work environment

Once we understand the importance of communicating a change effectively and empathically, we have to avoid losing sight of the fundamentals of planting the purpose of the changes and making them last. For example, communicating achievements and progress of that change and keeping the channel open to the conversation.

It is up to leadership to recognize these difficulties, intervene, and improve the health of the conversations. With awareness it is always possible and necessary to move towards achieving a better place to work and the results will come in addition.

Awareness is the brain's ability to perceive specific environmental stimuli in different domains, including visual, somatosensory, auditory, and interoceptive. For example, the visceral and body position. Science has discovered that this happens mainly in the front part of the brain, and that is why, to develop awareness, there are meditation, breathing and yoga techniques to complement it.

Here I share with you a simple exercise that you can apply to work the front part of the brain.

1. Sit in a comfortable position with a straight back, it can be in a chair or on the floor.

2. Breathe counting to 4 as you inhale and then as you exhale, count backwards.

3. Repeat this for several minutes paying attention to each of the sensations that the body sends you. The sensation of cold or heat in the hands, the sensation of the arms, of the head, of the shoulders, of the chest, of the waist, going down with the mind throughout the body, the sensation of the legs, of the feet, and finally the sensation of the whole body.

4. Stay with your eyes closed for a while and open them when you're ready.

This practice is ideal to practice and develop awareness and as a leader to be closer to the stimuli of the environment and the people around. Scientific studies have shown that practicing this daily for 8 weeks for 30 minutes a day brings enormous benefits, it is worth trying.

I hope you enjoyed this post and you can tell me in the comments if you have ever faced a similar situation or what is your reflection on it.
