Find your purpose, change your life

“Every decision we have made so far has reconstructed the reality that we live today.”

As we saw in the last post, in any circumstance it’s necessary to have a purpose in life to move forward. Make a visualization of what you want to do and be, whether simply for the next day or for the future. There are countless cases of people who have radically changed their lives after having discovered their purpose and understood that what they were doing until now was not really what the Universe had for them.

Let's take these cases for example, just to mention a few.

Jeff Bezos

Bezos initially had a successful IT career on Wall Street and held senior positions at several financial firms. He took a radical turn at the age of 31 when he founded Amazon, which revolutionized the e-commerce industry.

MS Dhoni

Before becoming one of India's most famous cricketers, Dhoni worked as a Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) at Kharagpur Railway Station. His career shift to sport led him to become the captain of the Indian national cricket team and brought him numerous victories.

Narendra Modi

The Prime Minister of India, before entering politics, helped his father sell tea as a child and later ran his own tea stall. He is now known for his important role in Indian politics and as a key figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Andrea Bocelli

Although he always had a passion for music, Bocelli initially dedicated himself to a career in law. He later became one of the most famous opera singers in the world.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

From champion bodybuilder to Hollywood actor to governor of California, Schwarzenegger's career has undergone several dramatic changes.

These individuals highlight the various paths one can take in life and how it is possible to achieve greatness in completely different fields. They serve as inspiration for anyone looking to make a change in their own life's purpose.

But then how to find my own purpose?

Well, it requires conscious time, it doesn't just come that way. All of these people spend a large number of hours introspecting in different ways, which in most cases is linked to going deeper into oneself and trying to discover what their purpose is.

Here are some of her recommendations based on her research on purpose:

1. Identify the things you care about

2. Reflect on what matters most

3. Recognize your strengths and talents

4. Try volunteering

5. Imagine your best possible self

6. Cultivate positive emotions like gratitude and awe

7. Look to the people you admire

Also, there are techniques for this such as meditation, visualization and other methodologies such as the Silva Method, the practice of Mindfulness or hypnosis to use different introspection tools.

For example, Andrea Bocelli found her purpose through her deep connection to music. From an early age he showed a powerful emotional reaction to music, which was a constant source of joy and satisfaction for him. Despite facing challenges, including losing his sight, Bocelli pursued his passion for music. He studied law and worked as a state-appointed lawyer, but music remained his true calling until his big break came when he recorded a demo for Italian pop star Zucchero Fornaciari, which led to a friendship with Luciano Pavarotti and, finally, to a successful career in music.

Bocelli sees music as a gift from God and a means to serve both God and others. He believes that music has the power to touch the soul, awaken passion and contribute to spiritual development. It has been a source of comfort and inner wealth for him, helping him overcome difficulties and instilling confidence and positivity.

His life purpose is to communicate through music, which he considers a tool to open hearts and minds. For Bocelli, music is not just a career but a way of life that allows him to express emotions, spirituality and love. It is the language that he shares with the world and through it he has found his purpose. Andrea Bocelli is known for his deep faith and spirituality, which are integral parts of his life and career. You have spoken about the importance of faith in your life, particularly as a source of strength and inspiration.

On the other hand, Narendra Modi's journey to find his purpose in life is quite remarkable. At the age of 17, faced with uncertainty about his future, Modi embarked on a journey of self-discovery that took him to the Himalayas. He traveled widely, meeting sadhus and saints and spending time at the Ramakrishna Mission. This period of exploration was crucial for him as he sought clarity about his path in life.

During his travels, Modi engaged in deep introspection and embraced a life of simplicity and spirituality. The experiences he had and the people he met helped him realize the importance of serving others and the potential to make a significant impact on society. This understanding aligned with his inner values and aspirations, leading him to pursue a life dedicated to public service.

Modi's stay in the Himalayas was transformative. He learned to let go of his thoughts and limitations, understanding that he was a small part of a vast universe. This humility and sense of unity with the world became the foundation upon which he built his life's work. After two years, he returned home with a clear vision and guiding force that eventually led him into politics and becoming Prime Minister of India. His story is a testament to the power of self-discovery and the impact it can have on finding your true purpose in life.

It’s interesting how in the previous examples we can see that introspection can be done in different ways, but it is consciousness that is in charge of seeking one's own purpose. It is about dedicating your mind and time, avoiding getting carried away by work and by life itself, instead of living it, because it is very short, and if it does not have a good purpose it will not be a happy life. Another component of purpose is that it cannot be just for you, you cannot be the only one who has the benefit of your purpose since notice how the most successful people are there because in one way or another they share their purpose with others, like Modi who Bocelli found his purpose in public service or in making it possible for people to communicate through music.

Like happiness, purpose is not a destination, but a journey and a practice. That means it's accessible at any age, if we're willing to explore what matters to us and what kind of person we want to be, and take action to become that person.

As leaders we have to have our purpose, and a good leader always has as his main objective the people he interacts with, to do good to them, whether they are employees, colleagues, clients or business partners. When that happens, then you will also have a happy life at work for both you as a leader and the people you work with.

My suggestion in case you have not yet found your clear purpose in life, is first of all, ask your own question, what is my purpose in life? If you have a good answer for that, then fine, yes. no, start spending quality time and finding help in any kind of introspection you can do or talking to your guru/mentor to try to find that beautiful spark. I read you in the comments!
